Student-athletes may be permitted to participate in two interscholastic sports during the same season pending approval of the head coaches, coordinator of athletics, and principal.
Students interested in pursuing this opportunity must complete the following steps.
- Review and submit the FCPS Dual Sport Participation Contract to the Coordinator of Athletics at least one week prior to the first day of tryouts.
- The application will be reviewed both by athletic and school administration as well as the head coaches of the two sports. If the coaches believe the student can meet their program expectations while participating in both sports, then the application may be approved.
- The Coordinator of Athletics will communicate the status of the application to the student.
- If approved, the student will complete the FCPS Online Athletic Registration for both sports.
- A tryout and practice attendance plan will be developed with the student and coaches to ensure all MPSSAA acclimatization requirements which limits mutiple practices in a day over the first 14 days of a season are met.
- Following team selection, the dual sport student-athlete must pay a $185 non-refundable FCPS athletic fee for their primary sport and a $148 non-refundable FCPS athletic fee for their secondary sport.
Requirements
- The student-athlete must designate a primary sport when submitting the application.
- A primary sport is defined as the sport taking precedence over another sport in the event their is a conflict of schedule.
- If one sport has a contest and the other has a practice, the contest will take precedence.
- The secondary sport must be at the varsity level. Varsity contests will take precedence over JV contests.
- The student-athlete must practice in both sports, but the amount of time must meet the agreed requirements of the head coaches of those sports involved.
- FCPS/MSDE/MPSSAA acclimatization policies willl apply and must be factored into practice time plans.
- Students may only participate in one practice per day during the first 5 days of the season and then alternating days of one or two practices through day 14.
